Willingness

You have the life you are willing to accept

The dictionary defines willingness as the state of being prepared. Readiness.

You have a massive say in the way you live your life in the aftermath of any event.

  • Girlfriend broke up with you

  • Family member passed away

  • Coach sat you for the big game

If you are not willing to take the actions to change your situation, then whether you like it or not that is the life you’ve chosen. Circumstances don’t make the man, they only reveal him to himself.

The question is not what happens to you, it is how you respond to what happens that makes you!

  • Stop blaming your coach for your playing time

  • Stop blaming your setter for your hitting errors

  • Stop blaming the ref for your losses

You CANNOT dwell in any blame game of your life. Even blaming yourself is completely useless. We must accept that while there are things that happen that we have absolutely no say in, we are 100% responsible for what we do in the aftermath. No exceptions, no “buts”.

We are going to remove the word BUT from our discourse. Every time you add that word to a statement you take on the role of a victim:

“I am willing, BUT I was too tired”

“I am willing, BUT I have a test this week”

“I am willing, BUT I am not tall enough”

Instead, we are going to embrace the real, magical, and inspired willingness to take control of our own actions and the UNWILLINGNESS to be a victim of circumstance.
