Alumni Update // March 7th

As the collegiate men's volleyball season heads into the heart of the conference schedule, let's check in on our alumni and see how they and their teams are doing:

Kyle Bugee (Lewis)

The junior outside hitter helped the Flyers climb to #7 in the national rankings after a big conference win over rival #9 Loyola-Chicago. Kyle is averaging 2.5 points per set playing in the OH2 position. Next up, the Flyers will take on non-conference foes Princeton an NJIT.

Bailey Mundy (Concordia-Irvine)

The Junior outside hitter has appeared in 18 matches for the Eagles, contributing 1.6 points per set. This past weekend Mundy and Concordia lost a close 5 set battle against #11 USC. The Eagles sit just outside the top-15 nationally and will look to get back on track against UCSD this weekend.

Attila Delingat (Princeton)

The freshman middle blocker and the Tigers currently sit atop the EIVA conference after a big time road win against Penn State (and his former high school/Bay to Bay teammate Nathan Smith). Princeton will play a home and home with NJIT.

Nathan Smith (Penn State)

Nathan and the Nittany Lions currently sit at 7-8 (4-2 in conference) on the season. That puts them in third place currently in the EIVA, well within striking distance for the NCAA berth awarded through the EIVA conference tournament.

Alex Li (NYU)

The junior outside hitter helped NYU upset the #2 team in the country (Stevens) in 4 sets. Alex contributed 15 kills, 3 aces, and 3 blocks in the match. Li continues to lead NYU in total points and kills. Read the press release on the St. John Fisher match.

John Alexander (NYU)

The freshman outside hitter appeared in one set of action against #2 Stevens and helped the team defend home court against the #2 team in the country. Next up, the Violets will take on the #1 team in the country: Springfield College.

Joel Schneidmiller (UC Irvine)

Joel and the #3 ranked Anteaters dropped two matches to the #2 team in the country: University of Hawaii. The sophomore outside hitter led the Anteaters in kills the first night and efficiency (hitting .316 on 19 attempts) the second. UCI will look to rebound for two big road matches against #9 BYU.

Brett Allen (M.I.T.)

Brett and the Engineers went 1-3 since the last update, losing to #8 ranked SUNY New Paltz and beating Nazareth College. Next up, M.I.T. will take on #1 ranked Springfield College.

Sean Staskus (UC San Diego)

The sophomore outside saw extensive action in UCSD's league match against #4 UCSB and a non-conference tilt against UCSC. Next up, Sean the Tritons will travel to Concordia-Irvine and take on #8 Stanford at home.

Wyatt Harrison (UC San Diego)

In his return home to Santa Cruz, Wyatt led the Tritons to a 3-set sweep of UCSC contributing a match high 13 kills and 2 service aces. Harrison still leads the Tritons in total kills and points scored.

Markus Melbardis (Loyola-Chicago)

Markus and the Ramblers lost a closely contested match against their cross town rivals: #10 Lewis. Loyola-Chicago turns their sights on two away matches at Grand Canyon in Arizona this weekend.

Aleks Melbardis (Stevenson)

The sophomore helped the Mustangs remain at the #6 position in the AVCA D-III poll this week after a 3-0 sweep of Widener. Melbardis hit an efficient .333 in the victory. Check out the highlights below:

Colton Stearns (M.I.T.)

The junior outside played a huge role in a tough 5-set loss to St. John Fisher. Stearns led the MIT offense with a career-high 11 kills and contributed 2 solo blocks. Next up, Colton and the Engineers prepare for a tilt against #1 ranked Springfield.

Nathan Wang (M.I.T.)

The sophomore setter/right side has been bringing the defensive intensity as of late. Wang contributed 12 digs against St. John Fisher and 7 digs against #1 Springfield.

Daniel Lien (UC Santa Cruz)

The freshman DS/libero showed some stellar defensive prowess in a 3-1 victory over Dominican University, amassing 7 digs in his DS position. Next up, the Slugs will play 4 matches in a matter of 3 days against Emmanuel, Adrian, Johnson & Wales, and Rivier.
